Disciple Making Community Sign-ups

  • First Christian Church (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

Winter Session starts January 5 (10 Weeks)
Sign-ups are December 14-January 4

Here At FIRST, we believe that the best way to learn to follow Jesus is in community with others. We believe that while gathering together on Sundays is essential, we are made by God for deep relationships that can only be forged in smaller group settings. These groups are meant to be a catalyst for connection, discipleship, and mission both at our church as well as where we live, work, and play! Here at FIRST, we call these groups Disciple-Making Communities.

In order to help bring better clarity and consistency to those of you who are desiring to experience community here at FIRST, we have made the decision to set aside three, 10-Week Sessions throughout the year: one in the Winter, one in the Spring, and one in the Fall. Now, here's the important part: We want to invite you to prayerfully consider joining one of these communities for the upcoming 10-Week Winter Session, starting the week of January 5 through March 15. Sign-ups are open December 14 through January 4, so if you are interested in learning more, please visit our groups page online at www.fcc-online.org/groups. Thanks, and may each of you find peace knowing that you are not alone in this adventure of following Jesus.

Your Marriage, God’s Masterpiece

For we are God's masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the GOOD THINGS He planned for us long ago.
—Ephesians 2:10

We are so excited for you to join us at the Art of Marriage Conference at First Christian Church Champaign. At this 2-day event, we will unpack six biblical words that describe how God loves and acts toward His creation, and discuss how we are called to model this love in our marriage. Note that this modeling doesn't imply picture-perfect - frankly, that's overrated and impossible to achieve. It's about helping couples realize our need for Jesus and the compelling way He journeys with us to turn our marriage into a messy masterpiece that can make a positive impact on the people around us.

  • Times: Friday, October 3, 6-9P and Saturday, October 4, 8A-3P

  • Location: First Christian Church Champaign

  • Cost: $65/couple, includes content, discussion guide, snacks/meals
    Food included: snacks Friday evening, continental breakfast, and lunch Saturday.

While we highly encourage couples to participate in this event together, if for some reason your spouse is unable to attend and you would still like to participate as an individual, please contact katlyn@fcc-online.org prior to registering.

The Practice of Prayer {Formation Class}

The Practice of Prayer {Formation Class}

Sundays, July 13–August 3, 9-10A

Every human, whether Christian or Buddhist or Atheist or Agnostic, cries out for help from a 'higher power' in their darkest hour of hopelessness. In other words, prayer is in some way at the heart of the human experience. For those who follow Jesus, prayer is often the first response for those seeking God, but also the natural activity of someone longing to know him more after years of following him.

Prayer, more than almost any other pursuit, is the foundation of our faith journey. This is why we believe that prayer is how we pursue relationship with God. It is having God's ear so that he may have our hearts. It is a conversational relationship with the Creator of all things—a rhythm of both speaking and listening. And it is at the very heart of our discipleship to Jesus.

If you desire to learn more about what prayer is and how to engage it practically in your everyday life, you won't want to miss this formation class starting on July 13 at 9A. Join us to grow in a conversational, experiential, relationship with the God who knows and loves us.

"Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you'll recover your life. I'll show you how to take a real rest." -- Jesus

Are you tired? Worn out? Exhausted? Is the pace of modern life too much for your weary soul? What if hurry and exhaustion and busyness aren't the way things are supposed to be? And what if there were an invitation from the Way of Jesus to directly combat these things? Well... there is. It's called Sabbath. It's a 24-hour time period set aside to stop work, rest well, and delight and worship God. Jesus and the majority of the heroes of the faith kept Sabbath, but we have forgotten this essential practice to the detriment of our souls. In fact, keeping the Sabbath is the only one of the 10 Commandments that people will brag about breaking.

If you desire to experience more peace, rest, and joy in your life, and for your life to be dictated by Jesus' rhythms of grace rather than the overwhelming speed of our culture, you are invited to spend 4 weeks learning to practice Sabbath in your life. Join us to rediscover the forgotten riches of rest found in the ancient and biblical practice of Sabbath-keeping.

"The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath." -- Jesus
